N.Y. Giants Draft McKethan In Fifth Round
April 30, 2022 | Football
LAS VEGAS - University of North Carolina offensive lineman Marcus McKethan has been selected in the fifth round with the 173rd overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. McKethan becomes the 248th Tar Heel chosen in the NFL Draft and the 21st offensive guard. He will begin his professional career alongside fellow Carolina offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu, who was drafted by the Giants in the third round.
"I'm so excited to be a New York Giant," said McKethan. "I've worked really hard to get into this position and I've had a ton of support from everyone around me. It's great to see that work pay off, and I hope I can continue to make the people that supported me proud. I had a great experience at North Carolina and now I'm looking forward to the next chapter. I can't wait to get to New York and get to work with a great franchise."
"Marcus did an excellent job for us while at Carolina and he's one of the main reasons we've led the league in rushing yards over the past two years," said North Carolina head coach Mack Brown. "He is so big, but he can really move for his size. Marcus was also very durable throughout his time with us, starting 37 of his last 38 games as a Tar Heel. We're looking forward to him showcasing those traits at the next level and I'd expect him to have a positive impact for the New York Giants."

A native of Barnwell, South Carolina, McKethan started 37 games during his final three seasons and appeared in 43 games over his four-year career with the Tar Heels. He earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors as both a junior and senior.
In 2021, McKethan blocked for an offense that averaged 35.2 points (3rd ACC) and 468.2 total yards per game (10th NCAA/4th ACC).
As a junior in 2020, McKethan helped the Carolina offense average a school record 537.3 total yards per game (5th NCAA/1st ACC) and 41.7 points per game (9th NCAA/2nd ACC).
