Moreno Earns ACC & National Weekly Honors
April 5, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina graduate goalie Taylor Moreno was selected the Defensive Player of the Week as the conference announced weekly women's lacrosse honors on Tuesday. Boston College's Charlotte North won offensive honors.
Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this year, Moreno made a season-high 16 saves, including two on one spectacular sequence that earned her a SportsCenter Top 10 berth, in leading a 15-7 Tar Heel win over Notre Dame on Saturday. The native of Huntington, N.Y., also caused a turnover and gathered a ground ball as UNC improved to 12-0 and 5-0 in the ACC this season.
The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association named Moreno its National Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts as well.
Six ACC women's lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest Inside Lacrosse Women/IWLCA poll, including three of the top four. North Carolina is ranked No. 1 nationally this week and is followed by Boston College (2), Syracuse (4), Duke (7), Virginia (16) and Notre Dame (18). The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.
The schedule this week is highlighted by a matchup between the last two unbeaten teams in league play, as Carolina travels to Syracuse Saturday for a 2 p.m. clash on ESPNU.
