Softball Falls to Charlotte in Midweek Matchup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carolina softball team dropped its midweek game at Charlotte on Wednesday night, 6-2. Despite both teams recording seven hits each in the matchup, the 49ers were able to plate all six of its runs off three home runs.
Sara Jubas and Kiannah Pierce each had two hits in the game, with Jubas hitting two doubles. Jubas now has 13 doubles this season, which matches the most of any player in the ACC.
After a scoreless first two innings, Charlotte (23-14) broke the game open in the bottom of the third, hitting their first home run, a solo shot, to take a 1-0 lead.
The 49ers added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, hitting a three-run home run, before sending a third ball out of the park in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-0.
The Tar Heels (19-18, 4-8 ACC) were able to get on the board in the top of the seventh, with Carlie Myrtle and Jubas each plating a run.
Freshman Lilli Backes (6-12) took the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. Hannah George pitched the remainder of the sixth inning, giving up one earned run.
