CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina men's lacrosse graduate attackman Chris Gray was the second player to be taken off the draft board on Tuesday night, chosen as the No. 2 overall pick by Atlas LC in the 2022 Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) College Draft.
He is the highest UNC men's lacrosse player to be selected in the PLL College Draft. Since the PLL's inaugural season in 2019, three other Tar Heels have been drafted – Jack Rowlett (' 19), Tanner Cook (' 21), and Justin Anderson (' 21). Nine former Tar Heels currently play in the PLL.
Gray is among the best to don a Carolina uniform. He is a four-time Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee, three-time USILA All-America, and four-time Inside Lacrosse Media All-America. He also received All-ACC accolades and was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year in 2021.
After collecting six points in his final collegiate game against Duke, Gray now stands atop the NCAA Division I all-time career points list with 401 career points passing Lyle Thompson of Albany. He had a historic 2021 season compiling 91 points to break the UNC single-season record, tied for second in single-season goals at Carolina with 49, and dishing out 42 assists that stand at fourth all-time in a single season at UNC. Gray cements himself in the Carolina history books as he finishes his career for the Tar Heels second all-time in career points (219), fourth in career goals (124), and fourth in career assists (95).
