Softball Season Ends In Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Carolina softball team's 2022 season came to a close with a 9-1 loss at Syracuse on Sunday afternoon. The Orange took all three games from the Tar Heels, outscoring Carolina 18-4 in the series.
The Tar Heels were plagued by costly fielding errors in the loss, committing three in the first two innings, and were outhit 10-5.
Syracuse got things going early with a run in the first, before plating three more runs in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Orange were able to add to their lead, scoring four runs off three hits, including a bases-clearing triple, to go ahead 8-0.
Carolina was able to scratch across a run in the fourth with a solo home run from Kiersten Licea, her first of the season, to make it 8-1.
Syracuse ended the game early with a one-run home run in the sixth.
Senior pitcher Hannah George took the loss, allowing six hits and four earned runs with a strikeout in an inning and a third of work. Lilli Backes and Carlie Myrtle finished out the game for the Tar Heels in the circle.
Carolina ended the season 23-28 overall, with a 6-18 record in ACC play.
