Maher Recognized As ACC Scholar-Athlete Of The Year

CHAPEL HILL - Senior Connor Maher has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and leads three Tar Heels selected for the All-ACC Academic Team, announced Tuesday by the league. He is the second player in program history to receive the honor. Fellow teammate Chris Gray won the award last year.

Joining Maher on the team are Collin Krieg, Zac Tucci, and Matt Wright.

Maher, a business administration major from Timonium, Md., earned second-team All-America honors for his stellar play as a short-stick defensive midfielder. He also received CoSIDA Academic All-America, Academic All-District, and All-ACC honors. A team captain and the leader of the Tar Heel defense, he finished the season second on the team in ground balls (43) and caused turnovers (8). He also scored his third career goal against rival Duke in the season's final game.

Krieg, a sophomore goalkeeper from Stony Brook, N.Y., is majoring in exercise and sport science.

Tucci, a senior face-off specialist from Bedford, N.H., graduated from UNC in May as a business administration major.

Wright, a junior defenseman from Calgary, Alberta, majors in exercise and sport science.
