June 7, 2022 | Softball, Academics
CHAPEL HILL – Carolina softball graduate student Sara Jubas has earned Academic All-America first-team honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Tuesday. The honor recognizes outstanding academic and athletic performance over the past year.
She becomes just the second CoSIDA Academic All-America in program history and first since Christine Kubin earned back-to-back honors in 1995 and 1996.
Jubas, from McDonald, Pa., is in her first year of pharmacy school at UNC, working towards her Doctor of Pharmacy.
She graduated from James Madison University in 2021 with a degree in biology, finishing her undergraduate studies with a 3.98 cumulative GPA.
Jubas, who was named to the All-ACC Third team on May 11, led the Tar Heels with a .357 batting average this season, tallying 17 doubles, 37 RBIs, 50 hits and 76 total bases. She also had the second-most runs (32), second-highest slugging (.571)/on-base percentages (.471) and walks (24).
Fourteen of the 37 members of the Academic All-America Division I softball teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.88.
