August 13, 2022 | Football
University of North Carolina head football coach Mack Brown will be featured on a new episode of Portraits, an hour-long show dedicated to his career as one of the winningest coaches in college football history. The show will premiere on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. on ESPN2 with several re-airs scheduled for ESPN2 and ESPNU in the subsequent days.
Produced by Origin Sports, the series features some of the most colorful characters in all of sports. Host James "Batesy" Bates gets to know each guest as more than just a player or coach. Episode 3 brings "Portraits" to Chapel Hill to spend time with Hall of Famer Mack Brown. Batesy joins Coach Brown in his man cave-like office at the Tar Heel football facilities to break down some of the biggest moments in his life and coaching career. They reminisce on Brown's small beginnings in Cookville, Tenn., the epic 2005 National Championship with the Texas Longhorns, and his biggest inspiration in life and football – his grandfather. Coach Brown provides insight into how he approaches recruiting, what it will take to succeed again at UNC, and even gives an inside look into his collection of Air Jordans!
A 44-year veteran of collegiate coaching, Brown has served as a head coach for 33 seasons with stops at Texas (1998-2013), North Carolina (1988-97, 2019-21), Tulane (1985-87), and Appalachian State (1983). Over his 33 seasons, Brown has posted a record of 265-139-1 (.656). Those 265 career victories rank eighth on the FBS all-time list and are the second most among active coaches. The 2005 Paul W. "Bear" Bryant National Coach of the Year and the 2008 Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year, Brown is one of a handful of coaches in college football history to lead two separate programs to Top-Five national finishes.Â
