September 6, 2022 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, NC --Â Â The North Carolina Tar Heels scrimmaged for seven full innings on Tuesday afternoon at a hot, steamy Boshamer Stadium as the Navy squad eked out a 4-3 win over Blue.
Navy got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Alberto Osuna drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center before Casey Cook scored on a wild pitch. Blue responded with pair of runs in the bottom of the inning when Patrick Alvarez smacked a 399 foot home run to left.
Navy picked up two more runs in the top of the seventh and final inning. Joe Jaconski scored from third on a wild pitch, then Bryse Blaser drove home what would prove to be the winning run with a sharp RBI-single to right. Blue picked up their third and final run in the bottom of the inning when Jackson Vanderbrake slid home on a wild pitch.
Each squad had four base hits and neither team committed an error. Jesse Jaconski's double to left was the only other extra base hit besides the Alvarez homer. Colby Wilkerson, who went 2-3 at the plate, was the only player with multiple base hits.
Eight pitchers saw action: Nik Pry, Kevin Eaise, Will Sandy, Nelson Berkwich, Connor Bovair, Nick Argento, Matt Poston and Alden Segui. Pry struck out five batters in 2.0 hitless innings while Bovair threw 1.2 hitless innings.
The Tar Heels won't scrimmage again until next Monday.
