WTEN Improves To 4-0 As Kalbas Wins 500th At UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's tennis team, ranked second nationally, posted a pair of 7-0 wins over East Carolina and Campbell in Monday's doubleheader at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, improving to 4-0 on the season.
The Tar Heels' win against the Pirates marked a major milestone for Brian Kalbas, who reached his 500th victory as Carolina's head coach. The winningest coach in Atlantic Coast Conference women's tennis history now owns an impressive 500-101 (.832) record at UNC.
Match 1 vs. East Carolina, 7-0
UNC started the first match against East Carolina by handily earning the doubles point. Reese Brantmeier, the nation's No. 1 recruit playing in her first match as a Tar Heel, joined forces with Abbey Forbes to defeat Ines Bachir and Alisha Hussain, 6-1, in the first position before the duo of Reilly Tran and Elizabeth Scotty clinched it with a convincing 6-0 win on court two over Martina Muzzolon and Isabella Rivera Ortiz.
Securing the first singles point for the home team was No. 58 Scotty who took down Muzzolon, 6-1, 6-0, on the third court. Continuing her strong rookie debut was Brantmeier, who topped Bachir by a score of 6-1, 6-3 on court two.
Crawley, the top-ranked singles player in the country, got her first clinch of the young season after besting Rivera Ortiz, 6-2, 6-1, on court one. Deciding to play the match out, wins from Sophia Patel, Lindsay Zink and Sara McClure led the Tar Heels to a 7-0 sweep over the Pirates.

Zink and Patel outlasted Tamsin Hart and Veronika Prospalova, 6-0, in the third spot before Brantmeier and Forbes once again teamed up on court one for another win, this time sweeping Anna-Marie Kopecka and Abbie Tyler, 6-0, for the opening point.
Again competing in the second spot for singles, Brantmeier defeated Lena Karlovcan in back-to-back 6-0 sets before No. 8 Tanguilig posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Mariana Ossa in the third position. No. 48 Tran clinched it for UNC in straight 6-0 sets over Kopecka on court four.
Playing the match out allowed No. 1 Crawley, Patel and McClure to earn additional singles wins for the Tar Heels, ending the doubleheader with a 7-0 sweep over the Camels.
