Navy Takes A 6-5 Win In Saturday's Scrimmage

Chapel Hill, NC --Â Â The North Carolina Tar Heels held a nine-inning scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at a sun-drenched Boshamer Stadium as the Navy squad held on for a 6-5 win over Blue.
Navy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Hunter Stokely's single up the middle plated a run. Blue promply tied the score in the bottom of the first on an Eric Grintz double to left. Blue took a 2-1 lead in the second on a nice Colby Wilkerson safety squeeze bunt.
Hunter Stokley's 359-foot solo homer to right center for Navy tied things up at 2-2 in the third. Navy then went up 3-2 in the third when Patrick Alvarez drilled an RBI-single to left.
Navy picked up three runs in the top of the sixth. Dylan King scored on an infield error, then Jackson VanDeBrake scored from third on a double steal. Patrick Alvarez capped off the inning by scoring from third on a fielder's choice.
Blue scored once in the seventh as Austin Hawke scored on an infield error to make it 6-3. Blue would then pick up two more runs in the eighth. Eric Grintz drove in a run with an infield single before Austin Hawke scored on a fielder's choice fot the final 6-5 score.
Six players had multiple base hits. Hunter Stokley was 3-4 with a home run, while Eric Grintz was 3-5 with a double. Casey Cook was 2-5 including a double, Carter French and Patrick Alvarez both went 2-4, while Jackson VanDeBrake was 2-5 at the plate.
Kevin Eaise and Connor Bovair were the two starters. Nelson Berkwich, Matt Poston, Will Sandy and Connor Hegan threw in relief. Bovair's 4.0 innings pitched were the most of any pitcher. Eaise, Berkwich and Poston each threw 3.0 innings.
The Tar Heels will hold their next scrimmage on Sunday.
