CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After a career-best performance in UNC's win at Clemson on Sunday, freshman guard Paulina Paris has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.
Paris, from Congers, N.Y., scored 22 points to lead Carolina to a 69-58 road win. It was the seventh victory in a row for the No. 11 Tar Heels and improved the team's record to 16-5 overall and 7-3 in ACC play. In the starting lineup for the first time, Paris played a career-high 33 minutes and hit six three-pointers in 12 attempts. She's just the fifth player and the only freshman to hit six or more threes in conference play so far this season.
She also had a career-high five steals as UNC matched its season high with 16.
On Thursday at Pitt in UNC's first game of the week, she came off the bench for five points, five rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes of play.
Her scoring average for the week (13.5 ppg) more than doubled her season average coming into the week (6.1 ppg). She's currently averaging 6.8 points per game for the season and 8.7 in ACC play.
Syracuse's Dyaisha Fair earned ACC Player of the Week honors.
UNC returns to action on Thursday at home, hosting Virginia at Carmichael Arena for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
