Mack Brown Named To Bear Bryant & Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Watch Lists

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – College Football Hall of Fame Inductee and North Carolina head coach Mack Brown has been named to the both the American Heart Association's 2023 Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award watch list and the 2023 Dodd Trophy midseason watch list.
Brown, who is responsible for Carolina's only two 6-0 starts since 1983, is one of 26 coaches nationally and four coaches from the ACC who have been named to the watch list. The award winners are announced during bowl season.
In his second stint as the head coach at North Carolina, Brown has led the Tar Heels to four consecutive bowl games and has collected two seasons with eight or more victories since returning to Chapel Hill.
In 34 years as a head coach, Brown has posted an all-time record of 280-144-1,including a 105-68-1 mark at North Carolina. Brown owns the second most wins among active coaches and earlier this season became the first head coach to win 100 games at two FBS schools.
Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award -- The 38th annual Coach of the Year award winner will be announced live from Houston's Post Oak Hotel on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. The watch list, finalists and Coach of the Year recipient are voted on by the National Sports Media Association, the Bryant Awards' Executive Leadership Team and the Bryant Family.
In addition to the Coach of the Year, the Paul "Bear" Bryant Awards will also present Conference Coach of the Year Awards from each of the Power Five collegiate athletic conferences.
2023 Dodd Trophy -- Managed by Peach Bowl, Inc. and presented by PNC Bank, The Dodd Trophy, college football's most coveted national coaching award, celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity – the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd's coaching philosophy.
The Dodd watch list was created through a selection process by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc., taking into consideration each program's graduation rate, Graduation Success Rate (GSR), commitment to service and charity in the community, on-field success thus far for the 2023 season and Academic Progress Rate (APR).
