Diamond Heels Post Exhibition Win Over Liberty

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC baseball team cruised to a 14-1 win over Liberty on Thursday night in its final fall exhibition game as six Tar Heel pitchers combined to hold the Flames to two hits.
UNC collected 11 hits with Georgia transfer Parks Harber, Quinnipiac transfer Anthony Donofrio, and freshman Luke Stevenson registering two hits each.
Harber and redshirt sophomore Casey Cook each belted a two-run home run and finished with three RBIs.
Donofrio plated the game's first run in the second inning, scoring from second base on an errant pickoff throw that sailed into center field. He scored again from second base in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Stevenson.
The Tar Heels exploded for nine runs in the sixth with one out. Harber smashed a two-run home run, and Stevenson ripped an RBI double off the wall in left-center field as UNC extended its lead.
Liberty pitchers then issued seven consecutive free passes, walking six UNC batters and hitting another, which led to six Tar Heel runs and an 11-0 lead after six innings.
Cook delivered a two-run homer in the eighth, and Longwood transfer Elliot Dix laced an RBI single through the left side to wrap up the scoring.
UNC starter Jake Knapp struck out three in 2.0 innings of work, while Ben Peterson and freshman Folger Boaz each struck out two in two frames pitched. Freshman Jason DeCaro, Olin Johnson, and Boston Flannery tossed an inning each and didn't yield a hit.
The Heels will hold an open intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10:30 a.m.
