UNC-Saint Augustine's Postgame Quotes
October 27, 2023 | Men's Basketball
Post Game press Conference vs St. Augustine's (Exhibition)Â Â
10/27/23
UNC: 117 - St. Augustine's 53
Coach Hubert Davis:Â
Q: Commenting on Elliot Cadeau's performance
Davis: He's tough. I mean, he's another player that is just not affected by physicality. He loves to compete. You saw him push the ball up the floor, he just instinctively can see things that most people can't see in terms of distributing the basketball… I felt like the biggest expression from him was when somebody else made a shot.
Q: On Playing "Carolina Basketball"
Davis: I wouldn't characterize [tonight] as old Carolina Basketball, I would characterize it as Carolina Basketball… You know, it's playing hard, playing smart, and playing together. I felt like tonight we played hard, we played smart, and we played together and we had fun.
Q: On Moving Forward to the Regular Season:
Davis: Let's take another step forward. Each practice each week, it's an opportunity to get better. Become the best team that we could possibly become… There's an opportunity for growth.
Saint Augustine's Coach Chucky Brown
Q: Commenting on UNC's performance.Â
Brown: UNC is a good team, they shot the ball well, shot the ball better than they did last year. And they're gonna be a good team in the ACC.Â
Harrison IngramÂ
Q: On seeing what the team has practiced come to life on the court.Â
Ingram: Y'all haven't seen the half of it. We didn't run like half of our plays out there. It's coming. We're coming.Â
Q: What makes you say that?Â
Ingram: Just know that we're coming. We're coming for everybody. I promise.Â
Q: On having three new starters. Â
Ingram: For me, I think chemistry is natural. In the past, coaches have had to manifest us hanging out together. Back to my AAU days, or any other team I'm on, coaches have had to force team this, and team that. But for us, we do it together. I hang out with these guys literally every single day. After practice we will go get something to eat, play 2k. We naturally just like each other as teammates.Â
Q: On playing his first game in the Smith Center.Â
Ingram: Seeing those 22,000 seats, it's crazy, although it wasn't packed. Seeing my parents right there, it was like a dream come true. Playing North Carolina basketball, it doesn't get better than this.Â
RJ Davis
Q: UNC's emphasis on playing fast. Â
Davis: That's the key. The emphasis has been to get back to Carolina pace, getting up and running. We had 25 fast break points, that's pretty good. That's just Coach Davis and the rest of the coaching staff emphasizing getting out and running. Looking to primarily run, not really settling in and tryna get set down plays. We want to get layups, and that's what we did. Â
Q: On the team's goal for tonight.Â
Davis: Just to do the things we've been doing in practice. This is something we've been preparing for and it translated well today. I think this is very encouraging. We can build off of this, learning from it. We did a lot of great things but I'm sure there were some mistakes we can build and learn so we can be better going into the season.
