CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC baseball program and head coach Scott Forbes have received the third top-15 ranking for the 2024 recruiting class. The Tar Heels were tabbed No. 15 by Baseball America when the publication released its rankings on Wednesday.
The recruiting rankings consider all players from the high school and junior college ranks and were compiled by the publication following many conversations with coaches and scouts. Four-year transfers were not considered for the ranking.
The Tar Heels' overall incoming 24-member class, including seven four-year transfers, was previously tabbed as the No. 10-ranked group in the country by Perfect Game and 12th by Collegiate Baseball.
North Carolina was one of seven ACC teams ranked in the top 25 by Baseball America. Louisville was ranked No. 10, followed by Clemson (No. 11), NC State (No. 18), Duke (No. 21), Wake Forest (No. 23) and Georgia Tech (No. 24).
The 2024 class includes 14 high school student-athletes and three junior college transfers, comprised of 12 pitchers and five position players.
The highly acclaimed class includes numerous North Carolina natives led by 2023 North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association 4A Player of the Year Luke Stevenson (Wake Forest) and 2A Pitcher of the Year Folger Boaz (Pilot Mountain). All-state pitchers Hugh Collins (Clayton), Ryan Hench (Hillsborough), Jacob Kirby (Waxhaw), and Harrison Lewis (Winston-Salem) helped comprise the class.
Prep pitchers Francesco Capocci (Cumming, Ga.), Jason DeCaro (St. Northport, N.Y.), Boston Flannery (New City, N.Y), Olin Johnson (Bellingham, Wash.), and Mason Yokum (Holly Springs, N.C.) each ranked inside the Perfect Game top national prospects as were middle infielder Gavin Gallaher (Apex, N.C.) and outfielder Kaleb Cost (Fayetteville, Ga.).
Outfielder Ryker Galaska (Greenville, N.C.) along with pitchers Aidan Haugh (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), and Luke Osteen (Huntersville, N.C.) joined the program from the junior college ranks.
The Tar Heels have had a top 25 Baseball America recruiting class in 13 of the past 18 years, including eight top 15 classes.
Fall practice continues for the Tar Heels through the end of October, culminating with the annual Blue-Navy Fall World Series, set to begin Oct. 24. UNC will also host an exhibition game against Liberty on Oct. 20.
