VB Smokes Hokies With Sweep

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Behind a blazing .420 hitting percentage, the Carolina volleyball team (11-11, 5-8 ACC) earned a straight-set victory over Virginia Tech (12-12, 2-11 ACC) on Friday night. It was the Tar Heels' highest hitting percentage since Oct. 10, 2021, which was also against the Hokies.
Graduate outside hitter Emani' Foster led the match with 13 kills, followed by junior Mabrey Shaffmaster and freshman Romani Thurman who had eight kills apiece. Shaffmaster's .538 hitting percentage is a new career best. No Tar Heel hit under .300 on the night.
Anita Babic and Zoe Behrendt combined for 35 of the Tar Heels' 44 assists, while Babic and Marissa Meyerhoefer each had a pair of aces.
Freshman Sydney Nolan hit .545 with six kills and a team-best five block assists. Carolina out blocked Virginia Tech 8-2.
Freshman libero Maddy May led the defense with 13 digs, while Behrendt and Foster both had six.
Up next, the Tar Heels host Wake Forest in Carmichael Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m.
