Patterson, Sentnor Nab United Soccer Coaches All-America Honors
December 1, 2023 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two standout North Carolina women's soccer players in Avery Patterson and Ally Sentnor have earned spots on the United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team, as announced by the organization Friday afternoon.
This is the first time either player has received an All-America nod. The Tar Heels have had at least one All-America selection each season since the honor began in 1980.
No stranger to postseason praise, Patterson and Sentnor were both named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region First Team as well as the All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team.
Patterson, a senior forward, ranked second on the roster with nine goals and 20 points in addition to dishing out a pair of assists in her 22 starts. She had a brace against Syracuse – the third of her career – and scored in three straight games during a tough stretch against Southeastern Conference opponents.
The co-captain was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 12, her first such honor. She had a goal against Towson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, capping off her career with 13 points behind four goals and five assists in four NCAA Tournament appearances.
A redshirt sophomore, Sentnor concluded the season with 11 goals, seven assists and 29 points to lead the team while starting all 23 games. Four of those goals and three of those assists came during the NCAA Tournament and she netted five game-winners during the year.
Sentnor was also tabbed the ACC Midfielder of the Year. She became the first UNC player to earn a major postseason conference award since 2019, and the first to be named midfielder of the year since the league began designating positional awards in 2004.
