Four Tar Heels have been honored as 2023 Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Awards, as announced on Friday by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Armando Bacot (men's basketball), Elizabeth Culton (gymnastics) Anton Down-Jenkins (swimming & diving), Destiny Middleton (softball) are among the ACC's 53 honorees.
Down-Jenkins and Middleton are among the ACC Postgraduate Scholars and Culton is the recipient of a Jim & Pat Thacker Scholarship. Each will receive a $6,000 scholarship to use in the pursuit of graduate studies.
Bacot is an honorary nominee, among a group of 11 recipients who plan to pursue professional careers in their sports.
This year's class of postgraduate scholarship recipients will be highlighted in a one-hour show on ACC Network that will air in May.
A center from Richmond, Va., Bacot is majoring in exercise and sport science.
An all-around competitor from Durham, Culton is majoring in psychology.
A diver from Wellingon, New Zealand, Down-Jenkins is majoring in advertising and public relations.
A third baseman from Forsyth, Ga., Middleton is majoring in human development and family sciences.
The ACC has selected postgraduate scholarship recipients annually since 1971. Over that time, the league has provided nearly $4.7 million to more than 1,000 ACC student-athletes.
