CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The North Carolina fencing team will travel to Boston College this weekend for the 2023 ACC Fencing Championships. Individual weapon championships will take place on Saturday, with team championships following on Sunday.

North Carolina will be up against a field of strong ACC opposition. Notre Dame currently holds the No. 1 spot in the women's rankings and No. 4 spot in the men's rankings, making them the favorites heading into the weekend. Duke also enjoys two ranked programs, the women sitting at No. 12 and the men at No.9. For the Tar Heels, the No.14 women and unranked men will look to pull off the upset and bring back their first ACC team title since the 2018 Women's Championship.

The Tar Heels will be looking to win their third consecutive straight men's epee title. Reza Merchant, who won the 2021 ACC Men's Epee Championship, and sophomore Eli Lippman, winner of the 2022 ACC Men's Epee Championship, will both be in the field this weekend looking to win their second title.

The only ACC team that the Tar Heels have faced this season is Notre Dame at the Elite Invitational back in November, where the men fell 16-11 and the women 24-3.
