Saturday's Scrimmage Goes Into Extra Innings

Chapel Hill, NC --Â The Blue squad rallied with three runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to take a 4-3 win over Navy on a sunny but cold Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
An Eric Grintz sacrifice fly to center gave Blue an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The scrimmage was then scoreless until Tomas Frick hit a solo homer to left with two out in the top of the ninth to tie the score at 1-1.
Navy took at 3-1 lead in the top of the tenth as Bryce Blaser scored on a fielder's choice before Reece Holbrook's RBI-single to short. With one out and men on second and third in the bottom of the inning, Casey Cook ripped a double to right to drive in both runners as Cook advanced to third on an outfield error. Cook then scored when Grintz hit a grounder to deep short.
Eric Grintz and Jackson VanDeBrake were the only players with mulitple base hits as both were 2-4. Extra base hits were Vance Honeycut and Casey Cook's doubles and Frick's home run.
Connor Bovair and Will Sandy were the two starters with Cameron Padgett, Connor Hegan, Kevin Eaise and Nick Argento throwing in relief. Bovair threw 4.0 scoreless innings while striking out two and giving up two hits. Sandy gave up one run in 4.1 innings, giving up two base hits. Easie tossed 4.0 scoreless innings with two strike outs while giving up two hits. Padgett hurled 4.1 scoreless innings by striking out three batters and giving up two hits.
The Heels will hold their next scrimmage on Sunday afternoon.
