February 8, 2023 | Men's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team has announced its schedule for the spring season, which features four matches on the road and one in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels officially begin their spring slate on Saturday, Feb. 11, against North Carolina FC, a USL League One team. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET at the WakeMed Soccer Park in nearby Cary.
Following a weekend off, Carolina begins its quest to capture its second-straight Spring Soccer Cup trophy. The Spring Soccer Cup is an annual showcase of several of the nation's elite programs, with UNC joining Clemson, Duke, Georgetown, Maryland, NC State, Pitt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest to form the 10-team lineup.
Since 2008, North Carolina has nearly double the number of College Cup appearances than the next closest competing teams: The Tar Heels have seven while Virginia, Maryland and Wake Forest have only four apiece.
Each program in the 2023 Spring Soccer Cup will participate in three matches in league play prior to arriving in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the final event on Sunday, April 16. At the end of the three league matches, finals will be determined with the 10 programs being seeded.
As part of the Spring Cup, the Tar Heels will face a trio of Atlantic Coast Conference opponents before finals. UNC will play Wake Forest in a neutral-site game at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C., on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. before hosting rival Duke on Saturday, March 4, for a 3 p.m. tilt at Finley Field in Chapel Hill.
Carolina is set to conclude Spring Cup regulation against Virginia at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, in Charlottesville, Va., at Klockner Stadium. Finals will be held at Spry Stadium on Wake Forest's campus on April 16 with UNC's opponent, which will be based on seeding, to be announced at the conclusion of league play.
