Softball Clinches Boston College Series With 8-3 Win

BOSTON, Mass. - The Carolina softball team (13-21, 3-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) clenched its first conference series of the season on Sunday afternoon, defeating Boston College (16-13, 1-5 ACC) 8-5.
Four Tar Heels had two-hit days in the victory, including Bri Stubbs, Abby Settlemyre, Alex Brown and Skyler Brooks. With her pair of hits, Stubbs now has 125 career hits.
Boston College took an early 3-0 lead, scoring a run in the first inning, before plating another pair in the bottom of the third.
Bri Stubbs and Abby Settlemyre opened the fourth inning with back-to-back singles. Alex Brown then plated Stubbs with a RBI single before a Skyler Brooks RBI groundout scored Settlemyre, making it 3-2.
The floodgates opened offensively for the Tar Heels in the sixth, scoring six runs on five hits and an error. Brown, Brooks and Licea each singled, while Stubbs had an RBI double and Settlemyre had an RBI single.
Lilli Backes (6-10) earned the victory in the circle, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings and allowing just four hits with three strikeouts.
The Tar Heels used four pitchers in the game, with Backes, Kenna Raye Dark, Bailey McCachren and Carlie Myrtle each taking their turn in the circle.
