Five MLAX Tar Heels Earn Midseason All-America Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - A total of five North Carolina men's lacrosse players were named to the Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-America list, the organization announced Friday evening.
Connor Maher earned first-team honors, as Paul Barton, Ty English, Collin Krieg and Logan McGovern collect honorable mention recognition.
Named a preseason All-America and Tewaaraton Award watch list member, Maher ranked third on the Tar Heels with 24 groundballs and second with 11 caused turnovers this spring. Voted a team captain for the second-straight season, Maher has collected multiple groundballs in seven games this year, caused a career best three caused turnovers on two occasions.
Starting all 10 games at close defense for the Tar Heels, Barton is tied with Maher adding 24 groundballs, boasting a team-high 15 caused turnovers. On the offensive side, Barton has recorded a point in four games, however defensively the sophomore caused a career-high three caused turnovers in the season opener against Mercer.
After moving to the defensive midfield to begin 2023, English has become a two-way threat for Carolina, scoring four goals while adding 22 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers. English has picked up multiple groundballs in nine of 10 games in 2023, regstering a career high four against High Point last week, while tying his career best in goals and points as well.
Between the pipes, Krieg has become one of the nation's top goalkeepers for the Tar Heels, ranking in the top-10 nationally in goals-against average (6th - 8.88) and save percentage (8th - .558), helping North Carolina to the country's third best scoring defense. The Stony Brook, N.Y. product has allowed single-digit goals in eight games, also stopping 10+ shots five times.
In his first season in Chapel Hill, McGovern leads the Tar Heels in goals (27), assists (20), and points (47). A two-time USILA Team of the Week honoree, McGovern is the only Tar Heel to score in all 10 games, including a career-high five goals against Providence last weekend. In addition, the Darien, Conn. native has registed five-plus points four times this season, including back-to-back games.
