March 7, 2023 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Patrick Alvarez scored on a wild pitch and Vance Honeycutt hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and No. 14 North Carolina rallied past Western Carolina, 8-4, in five innings after the game was called due to power issues with the stadium lights Tuesday night.
As a result, the Tar Heels' game against Penn State on Wednesday, March 8, has been moved up two and a hours and will start at 1:30 p.m.
"When you don't play a halted game and something like that happens, I feel really bad, about it," UNC head coach Scott Forbes said. "I wanted to finish the game, but we can't find another date to play. It's like a storm hit us, so you take the win and move on."
Colby Wilkerson had an RBI single and Casey Cook scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to help extended UNC's winning streak to six games.
Western Carolina (5-8) scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but North Carolina (10-3) answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run double from Eric Grintz.
After the Catamounts retook the lead the lead in the second, UNC junior Alberto Osuna hit a solo home run in the third to tie the game.
Freshman Kyle Percival (2-0) earned the win and Corey Bright (0-1) took the loss.
