Breschi, Miller Named To Ohio Lacrosse Hall Of Fame
April 1, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
COLUMBUS, OHIO - North Carolina men's lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi and former Tar Heel midfielder Joel Miller have been named part of the 2023 Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame induction class, the organization announced Friday afternoon.
In Breschi's 11 seasons as the leader of Ohio State's program, the head coach won 92 games during his time in Columbus. In Breschi's final season at the helm of the Buckeyes in 2008, Ohio State won its first ever NCAA Tournament game by defeating eighth-seeded Cornell.
The Buckeyes had seven winning seasons in Breschi's last eight years and made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2003, 2004, and 2008. Taking over a non-scholarship program in 1997, Breschi built the OSU program to prominence from scratch. Along the way, OSU had three double-figure winning seasons, going 10-3 in 1999, 12-4 in 2004, and 11-6 in 2008, when the program had the most significant wins in its history. A three-time GWLL coach of the year, Breschi won four GWLL regular season titles at Ohio State, while overseeing 128 Academic All-Big Ten honorees in the classroom.
After playing for Worthington Kilbourne High School prior to arriving in Chapel Hill, Miller played two seasons for the Tar Heels in 1999 and 2000. One of the top freshman players in the country during his rookie campaign, Miller won the John Gallagher Award as the top freshman on UNC. Miller led the Tar Heels in takeaways and groundballs during his first two seasons at Carolina, before suffering a career-ending surgery.
Breschi and Miller are two of seven members of the 2023 induction class, officially becoming part of the Buckeye State's hall of fame on June 10.
