CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina baseball team will look to end a three-game losing streak Tuesday night as it hosts UNCW to close out its nine-game homestand at Boshamer Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Tar Heels (25-15) are 3-5 on their current homestand, with two of those three wins coming outside of ACC play against Charlotte and Queens University. UNC is 16-3 at home this season against non-conference opponents.
UNCW (24-14) enters the game on a three-game winning streak following its sweep of CAA rival Delaware over the weekend. The Seahawks are 10-5 on the road this season, with two wins over TCU and another against East Carolina.
Freshman Tanner Thatch leads the Seahawks with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs. UNCW is hitting .304 as a team with 55 home runs and 301 runs scored. Its team ERA is north of 5.00 (5.52), and opponents are hitting .255 against its pitchers.
North Carolina ranks among the top 25 nationally in doubles (23rd) and base on balls (24th). Its 223 walks drawn are third-most in the ACC, while its 89 two-base hits are fifth-most. Junior Tomas Frick is tied for the ACC lead with 17 doubles, while sophomore Vance Honeycutt is second in walks drawn, 40.
UNC junior Mac Horvath sits atop the ACC leaderboard in stolen bases with 17. He leads the Tar Heels with 14 home runs.
The Tar Heels will send redshirt freshman left-hander Dalton Pence to the mound Tuesday night, and UNCW freshman right-hander Ty Lawson will oppose him.
