Lautt Collects Seventh Place Finish At US Open

LAS VEGAS, NEV. - North Carolina wrestling redshirt-freshman Cade Lautt earned a seventh-place finish at 97 KG in the Senior Greco Roman division at the 2023 US Open.Â
For his effort, Lautt has earned the right to represent the Tar Heel Wrestling Club at the 2023 Senior World Team Trials, May 20-21 in Colorado Springs, Colo.Â
On Wednesday, Lautt would win his first two matches, 8-0 and 7-4, respectively, however the Olathe, Kan. native would stumble in the quarterfinals, 10-0. After moving to the consolation bracket, Lautt would respond with a 12-0 victory to secure his top-eight finish.Â
In his seventh place match, Lautt would collect a 13-2 technical fall, to conclude his tournament in the Sin City.Â
Also competing for the Tar Heels in the Greco Roman division, Aydin Guttridge collecting two-straight victories at 130 KG, 9-0 and 7-2. Guttridge would drop two consecutive matches after, to finish the two-day tournament.Â
Starting Saturday, six UNC wrestlers will begin their quest for U20 Freestyle titles.Â
2022 US Open participants Spencer Moore and Cole Hunt make their return to the event for UNC, at 57 KG.Â
Making their debuts in the event are Jayden Scott (65 KG), Nick Fea (74 KG), Cade Tenold (79 KG) and Marcus Murabito (79 KG).Â
