CHAPEL HILL – University of North Carolina RB Elijah Green has been named a finalist for the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award, the public Diverse Issues in Higher Education announced. Entering his junior season, Green has already been named to the All-ACC Academic team, the ACC Academic Honor Roll and is a member of the UNC Dean's List.
Â
"An exceptional individual and student-athlete, Elijah continually demonstrates excellence in all areas," said UNC Assistant Director of Academic Support Kathy Zambrana. "His work ethic and determination are unmatched. As a student at UNC Kenan-Flagler, one of the top business schools in the country, he has worked tirelessly to not only excel in his courses but also make a significant impact in the community. Successfully balancing his academics and athletics, Elijah has also served in several leadership roles both at the regional and national levels, giving voice to the student-athlete experience."
Â
In addition to his academic exploits, Green has appeared in 22 games over his career at running back and on special teams. Last season, he started the final five games of UNC's ACC Coastal Championship team and rushed for 558 yards and eight TDs.
Â
Off the field, Green plans, organizes and leads a weekly bible study with over 20 players on the football team. He is on the SAAC executive council and has recently started to work with Uplifting Athletes to bring a university chapter to Carolina.
Â
The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards honor students of color who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field.
