Baseball Falls To Clemson In ACC Semifinals

DURHAM, N.C. – Caden Grice pitched strong seven innings, Billy Amick drove in four runs, and No. 3 seed Clemson defeated No. 7 seed North Carolina 10-4 in the semifinals of the 2023 ACC Baseball Championship at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday.
The Tigers will face No. 4 Miami, who eliminated No. 1 Wake Forest on Saturday, in the championship game Sunday.
Grice (8-1) allowed four runs and three hits but struck out nine and walked just one.
Cooper Ingle and Will Taylor each had three hits for Clemson, and Cam Cannarella hit two triples and drove in a pair of runs.
Grice drove in two runs with a first inning double, and Amick followed with a two-run homer over the left field wall during the Tigers' five-run first. Blake Wright hit an opposite-field home run to cap the frame.
Amick tripled in the second to plate two runs, and Ingle had an RBI single in the third as Clemson stretched its lead to 8-1. Cannarella drove in the final two Tiger runs with a triple in the sixth.
UNC starter Connor Bovair (5-4) was chased after 2/3 of an inning, allowing five runs and five hits.
Tomas Frick hit a pair of solo home runs, and Alberto Osuna belted another as three of the Tar Heels' four runs scored courtesy of the long ball. Hunter Stokely added an RBI double.
Seven UNC relief pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts in the final 8 2/3 innings. Matt Poston and Kevin Eaise combined for six strikeouts in the last two innings, with Eaise fanning four in 1 2/3 innings and Poston striking out two in 2/3 of an inning.
The field of 64 for the 2023 NCAA Baseball Championship will be announced Monday, May 29, at noon on ESPN2.
