June 20, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Former North Carolina men's lacrosse defenseman Jack Rowlett and the USA Lacrosse Senior National Team begin the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's Championship on home soil this week, serving as the host country for the nearly two-week event in San Diego.Â
The reigning world champion and top seeded U.S. begin the 30-team event on Wednesday night, squaring off with Canada at 10 PM ET.Â
Rowlett was one of 23 Americans selected to represent the country in December. The final roster was selected following a 50-player training camp help in Florida that month, which saw five Tar Heels invited. The honor continues a stretch of Rowlett representing the United States on the international stage, previously winning gold medals as part of the United States' U19 and U21 programs.Â
A product of Burke, Va., Rowlett a two-time USILA All-America during his time in Chapel Hill. A two-time All-ACC honoree, Rowlett helped North Carolina to the 2016 ACC Regular Season Championship and 2017 ACC Tournament Championship. In his freshman year at Carolina, Rowlett started all 17 contests on the year, helping UNC to the 2016 National Championship.Â
After concluding his collegiate career, Rowlett was selected seventh overall in the inaugural Premier Lacrosse League draft in 2019. Thus far in his pro career, Rowlett is a two-time All-Pro (2020, 2021), two-time All-Star (2021, 2022), a two-time PLL Defensive Player of the Year finalist, and 2019 PLL Rookie of the Year Finalist. One of the top defensemen in professional lacrosse, Rowlett helped the Chaos LC to the 2021 Premier Lacrosse League Championship.Â
The United States looks to repeat their 2018 gold medal showing, which included Tar Heel alum Marcus Holman '13 and current assistant coach Kevin Unterstein on the roster. Â
