CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team has released its schedule for the upcoming fall season, which features 16 regular-season contests with 10 matches played at Dorrance Field.
The Tar Heels are set to face five teams that finished in the top 25 of the final United Soccer Coaches poll last year, highlighted by a matchup with defending national champion Syracuse. In addition to the Orange, UNC's opponents include three first round, one second round, one quarterfinal and one semifinal team from the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
The 2023 slate includes home Atlantic Coast Conference games against Notre Dame (Sept. 15), Duke (Sept. 23), defending NCAA champion Syracuse (Oct. 6) and Louisville (Oct. 22). UNC hits the road to face conference foes Virginia Tech (Sept. 8), Pitt (Sept. 29), Wake Forest (Oct. 14) and Virginia (Oct. 27).
The Tar Heels open the regular season on Aug. 24 by welcoming Loyola Maryland to Chapel Hill before hosting American on Aug. 27. The team will then travel to East Tennessee State on Sept. 1 and Virginia Commonwealth on Sept. 4.
Carolina also faces UNCW (Sept. 19), Elon (Oct. 3), Florida Gulf Coast (Oct. 10) and William & Mary (Oct. 17) at Dorrance Field during nonconference action.
Prior to the start of the regular season, UNC will head to Campbell for its first preseason test on Aug. 11. The Tar Heels then return home for a pair of exhibition contests against High Point (Aug. 15) and James Madison (Aug. 18).
North Carolina produced an 8-6-5 record (2-2-4 ACC) record last season, advancing to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament and making its 29th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels had two All-ACC selections and finished fourth in the ACC Coastal Division.
