Rucker Nominated For Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
July 12, 2023 | Football, Student-Athlete Development
Chapel Hill -- University of North Carolina senior defender Kaimon Rucker has been nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Rucker's combination of athletic prowess and dedication to the community make him the ideal candidate to be selected for this prestigious honor.
Established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is one of the most coveted community service awards in college football. From the 135 nominees, the final roster of 23 award recipients will bring together 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision; 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA); and one honorary head coach. To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining strong academic standing.
On the field, Rucker has appeared in 37 games, starting 15, over his three seasons as a Tar Heel. A preseason All-ACC selection by Athlon Sports, Rucker has tallied 89 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 15.5 TFL and three forced fumbles over his career.Â
Off the field, Rucker is an ACC Top Six in Service Award winner, who generously donates his time to a number of causes. He served as a speaker at the UNC Mental Health Symposium, addressing mental health issues of student-athletes. Rucker has also participated in the Extra Yard for Teachers, UNC Children's hospital visits, the Boomerang after school program, elementary school field days, youth football camps, and various other charitable activities.
The final 22-member team and honorary coach are selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members, current and former head coaches and journalists. They look for exceptional leadership on and off the football field. After the final team members are announced in September, fans can vote for this year's Allstate AFCA Good Works Team captain through the official page on ESPN.com/allstate. Fans can join the conversation on social media with #GoodWorksTeam throughout the season.
