No. 2 Women’s Soccer Welcomes Cal For Sunday’s Home Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After starting its season on the road, the second-ranked University of North Carolina women's soccer team has its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 20, against California at Dorrance Field.

The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET and will air on ACCNX with Dean Linke and Kyle Straub on call. Sunday also marks the first of a five-game home stretch for Carolina. Tickets are available for purchase here.

Ten Things to Know

Carolina is 40-2-2 all-time in home openers, and also remains undefeated in home openers at Dorrance Field since its opening in 2019.
This will be the 11th meeting between the Tar Heels and Golden Bears in program history, with UNC leading the all-time series at 9-0-1.
This will be the second time Carolina and Cal have played each other in a UNC home opener, having last done so on Sept. 17, 1988.
Sunday will be UNC's 455th game played at home since the program began in 1979.
The Tar Heels are 402-32-18 at home and have outscored its opponents 1,676-223 all-time with home field advantage.
North Carolina is also 36-4-3 at Dorrance Field, outscoring its competitors 97-20.
Sam Meza is one of 56 players in Division I named to the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
After being crowned regular season co-champion in 2022, UNC was picked first in the ACC preseason coaches poll with 10 first-place votes and 166 points.
Meza joined Maycee Bell and Ally Sentnor on the Preseason All-ACC Team. UNC's three honorees were the most in the league.
Freshman Savy King logged a full 90 minutes in the season opener, earning high praise from head coach Anson Dorrance who said she "had one of the best first-game performances by a freshman in the history of our program."

No. 2 North Carolina battled No. 10 Penn State to a scoreless draw during Thursday night's season opener in University Park, Pa. The Tar Heels out-shot the Nittany Lions 19-5, with Sentnor having a game-high five.
