No. 4 Women’s Soccer Continues Home Stretch Against Gardner-Webb

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 4 University of North Carolina women's soccer is back at Dorrance Field on Thursday, Aug. 31, hosting Gardner-Webb for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. It will be UNC's fourth match in its five-game home stretch.

- Thursday is the first meeting between North Carolina and Gardner-Webb in program history.
- Gardner-Webb's head coach, Tina Murphy, played for the Tar Heels from 1996-00, winning four national championships and five ACC championships.
- Midfielder Sam Meza was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 29. The senior was also one of 56 players in Division I tabbed to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List during preseason.
- Meza's honor is the second for UNC this season, as freshman defender Savy King also earned the defensive player of the week award on Aug. 22.
- The Tar Heels have held all four of their 2023 opponents to under five shots: No. 10 Penn State (5), Cal (2), Wisconsin (1) and No. 24 USC (5).
