Heels Hold First Scrimmage Of The Fall

Chapel Hill, NC -- The North Carolina Tar Heels held their first scrimmage of the Fall on Friday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium as Navy topped the Blue squad 4-1 in a six-inning scimmage on a perfect day for baseball.
The scrimmage was scoreless after four innings before Navy exploded for four runs in the top of the fifth. Jackson Rusiecki singled up the middle to drive in the first run of the day, then Parks Harber drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the second run of the inning. Eliot Dix followed with a two-run single to make the score 4-0. Blue responded with its only run of the day in the bottom of the inning when Hunter Stokely laced a solo homer to right that was just inside the foul pole.
Stokely's home run was the only extra base hit for the afternoon. Alex Madera and Carter French were the only players with multiple base hits as both went 2-3 at the plate.
A total of eight pitchers saw action on the mound: Kyle Percival Jacob Kirby, Connor Hegan and Michael Colonna threw for Navy with Shea Sprague, Aidan Haugh, Hugh Collins and Ryan Hench throwing for Blue.
Jacob Kirby threw 2.0 scoreless innings by giving up no hits while tossing 15 strikes on 24 pitches to lead Navy's staff. Kyle Percival added 2.0 scoreless innings forNavy by giving up one hit while fanning two batters as 18 of his 29 pitches were strikes. Michael Colonna finished the scrimmage off for Navy by hurling 1.2 innings without giving up a hit. Shea Sprague tossed 2.1 scoreless innings for Blue as 17 of his 29 pitches were strikes
