Wright, Young Drafted In National Lacrosse League Draft

TORONTO, ONTARIO – North Carolina men's lacrosse alumni Matt Wright and Zach Young were selected the first round of the 2023 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, held Saturday afternoon at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.
With the 13th pick, the San Diego Seals selected Wright, just near the end of the first round.
Wright, a product of Oakville, Ontario, appeared in 47 games during his time in Chapel Hill, graduating this past spring. A 2021 All-ACC and USILA All-America honoree, Wright collected 121 groundballs and 38 caused turnovers as a Tar Heel.
Additionally, the former Tar Heel long-stick midfielder was a three-time All-ACC Academic Team member and USILA Scholar All-America this past spring in the classroom.
Just picks later, the Albany FireWolves drafted Young, with the 17th overall selection.
A native of Oshawa, Ontario, Young saw time in 12 games during his North Carolina career. This past spring, Young collected groundballs in the Carolina victories over Mercer and Providence in Chapel Hill.
Saturday was the second time in Young has been drafted in the first round during box lacrosse career, after being selected first overall by the Jr. A Peterborough Lakers in the 2017 Ontario Junior Lacrosse League Draft.
