Volleyball Downs Loyola Maryland In Straight Sets

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Behind a blazing .361 hitting percentage, the Carolina volleyball team (4-1) earned their second straight home victory on Saturday night, downing Loyola Maryland in straight sets in Carmichael Arena. Mabrey Shaffmaster led the offense with 11 kills, the only player in double-digits on either team, and matched her career best of five service aces.
Defensively, Maddy May tallied 11 digs, helping to hold Loyola-Maryland to just a .064 hitting clip, the lowest of any Tar Heel opponent this season.
At the net, the Tar Heels matched their season-best of 11 blocks, led by Kaya Merkler and Sadie Swift who had five and four block assists apiece, respectively.
Despite Carolina tallying 10 service aces, the second time this season with double-digit aces, both teams struggled at the service line, combining for 15 service errors.

- Mabrey Shaffmaster had a career-best .500 hitting percentage against the Greyhounds, tallying 11 kills on just 18 attempts with two errors
