VB Sweeps Virginia In First ACC Win Of The Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Behind a season-high 12 blocks, the Carolina volleyball team (7-3, 1-0 ACC) tallied their first ACC win of the season on Friday night, downing Virginia in three sets in Carmichael Arena.
With the victory, the Tar Heels improve to 5-0 at home and have dropped just one set in Chapel Hill this season.
Mabrey Shaffmaster led UNC with a match-best 16 kills while hitting .314, her sixth straight double-digit kill match in a row and eighth of the season. At the net, Sadie Swift posted a career-best 9 blocks, including two solo stuffs, to go with four kills.
Anita Babic quarterbacked the Tar Heels with her second double-double of the season and sixth of her career, setting 30 of Carolina's 41 kills and 10 digs.
Maddy May tallied her ninth double-digit dig outing of the season with 12 digs to go with a season-high nine assists. Safi Hampton tallied both of Carolina's two aces in the match and had five kills and seven digs.
As a team, the Heels outhit the Hoos .198 to .067, while Virginia had five aces and held the Tar Heels to just two aces, a season-low.
Up next, the Tar Heels return to Carmichael on Sunday for a matchup with No. 8 Pitt at 1 p.m.
