VB Suffers First Conference Loss Of The Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina volleyball team (7-4, 1-1 ACC) suffered their first ACC loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 8 Pitt in straight sets in Carmichael Arena.
The Panthers out-blocked the Tar Heels 12-6, while holding a 312 to.111 hitting percentage advantage. Mabrey Shaffmaster was the only Tar Heel with double-digit kills, tallying 11, while Emani' Foster contributed nine kills. Shaffmaster also had the sole ace of the match.

- Shaffmaster has had double-digit kills in seven straight matches and in nine out of 11 matches on the season
- Anita Babic had 27 assists and seven digs against the Panthers. The sophomore setter averaged 9.50 assists a set in the opening weekend of ACC play
- Maddy May led the defense with nine digs. It was just the second time this season she has not had double-digit digs in a match
- The Tar Heels were led at the net by Sadie Swift who contributed a team-best five blocks. She finished the weekend with 14 total blocks, including three solo blocks and 11 block assists
- Carolina is now 1-4 when hitting under .200 on the season. The sole win was against Virginia with a .198 hitting percentage.
- The Tar Heels held Pitt to zero aces in the match. It's the first time the Panthers have not had a service ace in a match since Dec. 2, 2017, vs. Penn State
- It's the first time since Dec. 3, 2021 that the Tar Heels have had just one ace in a match
