How It Happened
- Carolina came out pressing, firing off six shots in the opening 15 minutes of play while also jumping out to a quick 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
- UNC had a chance five minutes in when Emily Moxley's free kick connected with Maycee Bell in the center of the box, but her header went right into the gloves of FSU's Cristina Roque.
- However, it was Florida State that struck first in the 17th minute after a goal from Jordynn Dudley.
- Maddie Dahlien drew a foul inside the box in the 41st minute to award the home team a penalty kick, but Bell's attempt from the spot sailed just over the crossbar.
- The Tar Heels quickly responded a minute later with the equalizer from Ally Sentnor. One-on-one with her defender, Dahlien created space to take a left-footed shot which deflected off Roque's boot. Sentnor was there for a quick rebound to the upper right.
- Dudley recorded her second goal of the day in the 63rd minute to put the Seminoles up 2-1.
- Dahlien had one of the better looks for UNC to level the score yet again, but her strike from distance in the 75th minute went over the crossbar.
- Dahlien finally broke through to level the score at two apiece in the 77th minute. Bella Sember played it off to Evelyn Shores whose short pass found Dahlien on the left side. Her low shot ricocheted off the near post and into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
- The Tar Heels got the go-ahead goal nine minutes later. A beautiful service from Sentnor on the left side found Kate Faasse at the top of the 6-yard box who finished it with a volley to the far post.
- Florida State's Amelia Van Zanten evened it up once again in the game's final seconds off a corner kick, ending the game with a 3-3 decision.
- North Carolina had seven corner kicks by the 15:10 mark, finishing the match with a 10-3 advantage. Florida State, which had not allowed more than seven corners all year, had been averaging just under eight per game of its own.
- The back-and-forth contest ended with UNC taking 20 shots to FSU's 19. The Seminoles had seven shots on target to the Tar Heels' six.
- Sentnor had a game-high-tying seven shots and Dahlien had a team-high two on goal. Sentnor and Avery Patterson now lead the Tar Heels with four goals each.
- Emmie Allen matched her season-high four saves, while Roque concluded the match with three.
- Allen, Bell, Emerson Elgin, Savy King and Evelyn Shores logged a full 90 minutes.
- This was the first game UNC trailed and then tied since Oct. 21, 2021, also against FSU.
