Following the win, the Tar Heels improve to 8-0-4 and 3-0-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference action while the Wolfpack drops to 1-6-5 (0-2-2).
How It Happened
- The Tar Heels jumped out to an early lead after capitalizing off a set piece opportunity in the fifth minute. An Emily Moxley corner kick found Evelyn Shores inside the six-yard box, whose header ricocheted off the near post for her fourth of the season.
- Carolina doubled its lead in the 30th minute when a failed clearance by NC State gave Tori Dellaperuta a chance from nearly 25 yards out. Dellaperuta's strike bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the back of the net, also marking her fourth goal this year.
- UNC wasted no time extending its lead to 3-0 coming out of the break as Ally Sentnor found her team-leading fifth goal 34 seconds into the second half. Holding off several Wolfpack defenders, her left-footed shot from the top of the 18-yard box landed in the upper 90.
- The Tar Heels' lead was extended to 4-0 in the 73rd minute after Melina Rebimbas' corner connected with Kate Faasse. Faasse's header slipped out of NC State's keeper's hands, allowing Kayleigh Herr to tap it in with her left foot for her first career goal.
- Carolina's stalwart defense kept NC State shotless during the second half, the fifth time UNC has held its opponent without a shot during a half this season.
- UNC's back line has held 11 of its 12 opponents to 10 shots or less, and six of those to five or fewer.
- The Tar Heels finished with a 24-2 edge in shots, including 12-1 on target to match their most shots on goal this year. UNC outshot NCSU 17-0 during the final 45 minutes.
- Emmie Allen made one save for her sixth shutout – and the team's seventh – of the year.
- Isabel Cox made her 99th career appearance, the most among active Division players.
- A season-high 26 Tar Heels saw the pitch with Allen, Emerson Elgin and Savy King all logging over 80 minutes.
- Sentnor's goal 34 seconds in was UNC's fastest goal in a half since Emily Colton scored 33 seconds into the second half at Florida on Sept. 9, 2021.
