Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw At Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, VA. – Quenzi Huerman's equalizer in the 82nd minute helped the North Carolina men's soccer team (2-0-2, 0-0-1 ACC) remain unbeaten, earning a 1-1 draw at Virginia Tech (0-2-3, 0-0-1 ACC) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener Friday night.
How It Happened
• The lone Carolina shot on goal in the opening frame came in the fifth minute, as David Bercedo's effort off the right foot was halted by the Hokie goalkeeper.
• In the 30th minute, Virginia Tech's Ethan Ballek would send a laser from just outside the box, but Tar Heel goalkeeper Quinn Closson made the save, to keep the opening half clean sheet intact.
• The Tar Heels posted another scoring attempt the 62nd minute, as Bercedo once again fed a shot on goal from straight-away, however the Virginia Tech keeper was there to make the save.
• In the 77th minute after just subbing in moments prior, Virginia Tech's Olivier Roche was dished a ball from Declan Quill, to take a 1-0 lead.
• After a 38-minute weather delay, Huerman found the back of the net with a strike off the left foot, to knot the match at 1-all in the 82nd minute.

• Carolina still holds the all-time series with Virginia Tech, 21-4-2, including 6-2-2 in Blacksburg.
• Friday was Closson's first collegiate start in goal, as the junior posted one save.
