Ustby Named USBWA National Player Of The Week

North Carolina senior Alyssa Ustby has been named one of five USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Players of the Week for a standout performance against Clemson on Sunday.
Ustby, a guard/forward from Rochester, Minn., was honored by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association along with Iowa's Caitlin Clark, UCLA's Londynn Jones, Villanova's Lucy Olsen and Colorado's Jaylyn Sherrod.
Penn's Mataya Gayle was honored as the freshman of the week, while Syracuse – UNC's opponent on Thursday – is the National Team of the Week.
The Tar Heels, 9-4 overall and 1-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, host the 25th-ranked Orange on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Carmichael.
On Sunday in Carolina's conference opener, an 82-76 win over the Tigers, Ustby registered 21 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and the 28th of her career. She was 8-10 from the field and added two assists and two steals in her 35 minutes on the court.
She's averaging 12.9 points and a team-best 8.9 rebounds per game. In addition to rebounding, in which she's fifth in the ACC, she ranks among the conference leaders in steals (2.0 per game, T7th), field goal percentage (.497, 8th), and blocks (1.15, 10th).
