Team USA Advances To FIFA U17 World Cup Quarterfinals
October 22, 2024 | Women's Soccer
SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS, Dominican Republic – The United States Under-17 Women's Youth National Team cruised into the FIFA U17 World Cup quarterfinals with a 5-0 win over Korea Republic at Estadio Cibao FC on Tuesday.Â
Team USA advances to the knockout rounds after finishing second in Group B standings with six points behind two-time defending U17 champion Spain. It marks the third time the stars and stripes has advanced to the quarterfinals in six FIFA U17 World Cup appearances.Â
North Carolina freshman defender Trinity Armstrong is currently representing Team USA at the FIFA U17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic. The tournament runs from Oct. 16-Nov. 3.Â
Starting at center back, Armstrong helped give Team USA its second shutout of the World Cup against Korea Republic, and in back-to-back games. She has played every minute of all three contests.
The 17-year-old Armstrong is one of four college players on the U.S. roster, and she now has seven international caps already on her resume. She was the only current college player in the starting XI against Spain in the World Cup opener.
USA will take on Nigeria, the winner of Group A, on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3:30 p.m. ET at Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros, about 95 miles north of Santo Domingo.
All matches of the 2024 FIFA U17 World Cup will be broadcast in English on the FOX Sports family of networks and online on FoxSports.com with corresponding authentication in Spanish on the Telemundo networks.
