October 27, 2024 | Men's Soccer
STANFORD, Calif. – A goal each from Bertil Hansen and Luke Hille, added with a stout defensive effort fueled the 11th-ranked North Carolina men's soccer program (9-2-4, 4-2-1 ACC) over No. 7 Stanford (8-3-4, 3-2-3 ACC), 2-1.
How It Happened
• In the 15th, after Tate Johnson was fouled just outside the box, Sam Williams' free kick sailed just over the goal.
• After the ball bounced around on the Stanford offensive end, Will Cleary's shot was halted by Andrew Cordes in the 23rd frame.
• Ten minutes later following two Tar Heel subs off the bench, Tate Lorentz forced a shot on goal and Bertil Hansen's header went high.
• Just five minutes later, the tandem of Lorentz and Hansen caused a Stanford turnover, finished by Hansen giving Carolina a 1-0 edge in the 38th.
• Coming out of the half, the Cardinal sent two shot attempts on cage, denied by Cordes.
• In the 68th, Andrew Czech chipped a ball to the back post, sent home by Luke Hille's right foot.
