STANFORD, Calif. – North Carolina extended its winning streak to seven and its run of shutouts to five with a 3-0 field hockey win at Stanford on Friday.
The Tar Heels (7-0, 2-0 ACC) stay in the Bay Area to take on No. 20 California Sunday in Berkeley.
Senior Katie Dixon scored the gamewinner against the Cardinal, tapping in a pass from sophomore Charly Bruder in transition midway through the first quarter.
Bruder scored on a penalty corner shortly after halftime to make it 2-0. Seniors Ciana Riccardo and Kelly Smith had the assists on the play.
UNC tacked on one more in 53rd minute, with graduate student Pleun Lammers deflecting in Bruder's initial corner strike to make it 3-0.
Carolina led 20-5 in shots, 16-2 in the second half.
Abigail Taylor made three saves to preserve the Tar Heel shutout. Daisy Ford had nine for Stanford (5-4).
