Four Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Recognition

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four North Carolina Men's Soccer players have been named to the 2024 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Teams, the league officed announced Wednesday afternoon.
Riley Thomas (First Team), Martin Vician (Second Team), Sam Williams (Third Team) and Tate Johnson (All-Freshman) are among the Carolina representation in the postseason honors.
Thomas, a defender from Atlanta, Ga., has started in all 17 matches this season for the Tar Heels, playing a team-best 1,526 minutes in the field. Thomas has been an integral part of the Carolina back line this season, helping the Tar Heels post six shutouts and the third-ranked scoring defense in the ACC. Named to the 2024 ACC Preseason Watch List, Thomas earns postseason honors from the conference for the second-straight season.
Vician collects ACC postseason honors for the first time during his two seasons in Chapel Hill, previously earning All-Conference recognition twice prior to arriving at Carolina. The Bratislava, Slovakia native ranked in the top-five in the ACC in goals, game-winning goals and points, leading the Tar Heels in each category. Vician has found of the back of the net in seven matches this fall, posting three multi-goal performances.
Williams, a junior midfielder for the Tar Heels, earns All-ACC honors for the third consecutive season. The Tenafly, N.J. product has started all 17 matches for the Tar Heels this fall, scoring four goals and dishing out two assists. Williams has played the full 90 for Carolina in 13 matches this season, logging 1,481 minutes.
Johnson becomes the first Tar Heel since Williams in 2022 to make the league's All-Freshman Team. This season, Johnson has started all 16 contests he's appeared in, playing the full 90 in 13 matches. Johnson scored his first-career goal in the win over College of Charleston, also recording an assist against St. John's and Notre Dame.
