NCAA Second Round Vs. Santa Clara Up Next For Women’s Soccer

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Following a victory in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament, No. 2 seed North Carolina is set to take on Santa Clara in the second round at Dorrance Field on Friday, Nov. 22.
Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET and the match will air on ESPN+ with Brian Waer on call. Tickets are available for purchase here.

The Tar Heels enter the contest with a 17-5 (7-3 ACC) record. The team advanced to the second round following its dominant 8-0 win over USC Upstate in the NCAA opener, which matched the largest first-round victory in program history.
The Broncos will arrive in Chapel Hill boasting a 13-3-4 (6-1-3 WCC) mark on the year. They earned an automatic bid after winning their 14th West Coast Conference title and knocked off No. 7 Brigham Young, 1-0, in the first round.

- The Tar Heels have an all-time record of 148-18-5 (.880) in the NCAA Tournament.
- Carolina has won 21 of 42 NCAA titles, plus the 1981 AIAW title for 22 national championships.
- Carolina has appeared in 31 College Cups, including four of the last six. No other team has been in more than 14.

- The last meeting between the two teams was in the 2020 NCAA Semifinals, played in Spring 2021 due to COVID-19. The Broncos beat the Tar Heels, 3-1, en route to winning the national title.
- Faasse leads the ACC and is tied for second in the nation with 18 goals. Her six game-winning goals also lead the conference.
- A junior, Faasse already has five braces on the year. Only three Tar Heels have had 3+ braces in a single season in the last decade: Faasse (5, 2024), Alessia Russo (5, 2019) and Bridgette Andrzejewski (4, 2016).
- UNC had eight goals vs. USC Upstate in the NCAA First Round on Nov. 15. It matched its largest first-round NCAA Tournament victory in program history (another 8-0 win vs. High Point in 2003). It was also the most goals scored this season.
- Faasse and Linda Ullmark both had a brace vs. USC Upstate. They became the first Tar Heel duo to both have a brace in the same NCAA game since Lindsay Tarpley and Elizabeth Guess on Nov. 13, 2004, in the second round against William & Mary.
- The Tar Heels have 12 shutouts on the year and have kept their opponents to 7.9 shots per game and 3.9 shots on goal per game.
- Six Tar Heels combined for seven All-ACC postseason honors: Armstrong and Faasse on the First Team; Dahlien and Dellarose on the Third Team; and Armstrong, Bella Gaetino and Ullmark on the All-Freshman Team.
- UNC is currently No. 2 in the latest NCAA RPI. The team was No. 1 for five straight weeks and has been in the top-4 all year.
