North Carolina, Minnesota Face Off In NCAA Third Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Vying for a trip to the quarterfinals, No. 2 seed North Carolina must first get past No. 6 seed Minnesota in the third round of the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament which will take place on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Dorrance Field.Â
Kickoff will be at 5 p.m. ET and the match will air on ESPN+ with Brian Waer and former UNC standout Brianna Pinto on call. Tickets are available for purchase here.

The Tar Heels enter the contest with an 18-5 (7-3 ACC) record. The team advanced to the Round of 16 following its 1-0 win over Santa Clara in the second round thanks to Clare Gagne's key penalty kick save and Tessa Dellarose's late game-winning goal.
The Golden Gophers boast a 14-4-3 (6-3-2 Big Ten) mark on the year. They earned the opportunity to play on Sunday after knocking off third-seeded South Carolina, 2-1, in the second round on Friday.Â
UNC checked in at No. 8 in the final regular season United Soccer Coaches poll while UMN received votes.Â

- Gagne and Dellarose were the heroes of UNC's second round game vs. Santa Clara. Gagne had a clutch penalty kick save in the 34th minute before Dellarose netted the game-winner with 22 seconds left on the clock.Â
- Kate Faasse leads the ACC and is tied for second in the nation with 18 goals. Her six game-winning goals also lead the conference.Â
- A junior, Faasse already has five braces on the year. Only three Tar Heels have had 3+ braces in a single season in the last decade: Faasse (5, 2024), Alessia Russo (5, 2019) and Bridgette Andrzejewski (4, 2016).
- The Tar Heels have 13 shutouts on the year and have kept their opponents to 7.7 shots per game and 3.8 shots on goal per game.Â
- UNC had eight goals vs. USC Upstate in the NCAA First Round on Nov. 15. It matched its largest first-round NCAA Tournament victory in program history (another 8-0 win vs. High Point in 2003). It was also the most goals scored this season.
- Six Tar Heels combined for seven All-ACC postseason honors: Armstrong and Faasse on the First Team; Dahlien and Dellarose on the Third Team; and Armstrong, Bella Gaetino and Ullmark on the All-Freshman Team.
